Ross County, Ohio – On April 3, 2024, a routine patrol led to the apprehension of individuals with outstanding warrants and the seizure of narcotics by Ross County Sheriff’s Deputies.
Deputy Jacob Johansen observed Charles Richards, a known individual with an active arrest warrant, exiting a vehicle on Massieville Road. Johansen swiftly acted upon this information, confirming the warrant’s validity with dispatch. Subsequently, Johansen approached Richards and informed him of his warrant, leading to his arrest. During the arrest, suspicious behavior by Richards prompted Johansen to search his discarded hooded sweatshirt, where a plastic baggie containing a white crystalline substance was discovered and seized as evidence.
While en route to the Ross County Jail with Richards in custody, Deputy Johansen encountered a female resembling Joyce Gibson, who was believed to have an active felony warrant from Pike County. Acting on a tip received earlier, Johansen confirmed Gibson’s identity through law enforcement databases. Despite Gibson’s attempts to conceal her identity and resist arrest, deputies were able to apprehend her. Upon searching Gibson, deputies discovered a small container with a crystal-like substance and a silver flask, both seized as evidence.
Both suspects were transported to the Ross County Jail. Deputy Johansen indicated that the suspected narcotics seized from Charles Richards would be sent to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) for further testing.
The swift actions of law enforcement officers led to the apprehension of individuals with outstanding warrants and the removal of narcotics from the community, underscoring their commitment to maintaining public safety in Ross County.
