19 Year Old Fairfield County Man Charged with Murder Following Early Morning Shooting

Authorities in Fairfield County have arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred early Thursday morning in the Cherry Hill subdivision.

At approximately 3:43 a.m., police received a 911 call reporting a shooting at a residence on Montmorency Drive. The caller stated that a victim had been shot multiple times and that the suspect had fled the scene in a vehicle.

Officers quickly located the suspect’s vehicle on Hill Road, just north of Diley Road, and conducted a traffic stop. The suspect complied with officers’ commands and was taken into custody without incident. Two firearms were recovered from the vehicle.

Responding officers and medics arrived at the residence to find the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Life-saving measures were attempted before the victim was transported to Mount Carmel East Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities have identified the victim as 23-year-old Kamal A. Walters of Columbus. The suspect, 19-year-old Samuel J. Stallworth of Pickerington, was arrested and transported to the Fairfield County Jail. Charges are expected to be filed soon.

According to the preliminary investigation, the shooting occurred after a dispute between the suspect and victim inside the home, where two female occupants were also present. No other injuries were reported.

The investigation remains ongoing, with assistance from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Law enforcement officials commended the swift response of dispatchers and officers in safely apprehending the suspect.
