Chillicothe – The Chillicothe Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a three vehicle fatal crash which occurred on US 23 near mile post 18, in Ross County on November 27, 2019 at approximately 12:24 P.M.
A 2017 Chevy Sonic, driven by Susan Frazier, 61, of Circleville Ohio, was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of US 23 when it sideswiped a northbound 2006 Mercedes-Benz, driven by Candice Cain, 46, of University Park, Illinois. The 2006 Mercedes-Benz was also occupied by Athena Barnes, 45, of Chicago Heights, Illinois and Moussa Leye, 18, of University Park, Illinois.
Ms. Frazier’s vehicle c ontinued traveling southbound in the northbound lanes when it struck a 2016 Toyota 4-Runner, driven by Thomas Laciano, 49, of Concord North Carolina. Allison Laciano, 46, of Concord North Carolina, along with 4 juveniles were traveling in the Toyota.
Ms. Frazier’s and Mr. Laciano’s vehicles came to rest in the median where Ms. Frazier’s vehicle became engulfed in fire.
Ms. Frazier was transported to the Adena Regional Medical Center, by Union Township EMS, where she succumbed to her injuries. Mr. Laciano, Mrs. Laciano and the 4 juveniles were transported to the Adena Regional Medical Center by Green Township EMS, with non-life threatening injuries. Mrs. Laciano was later transported to the Grant Medical Center and three of the juveniles were transported to Nati onwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio for additional treatment. Ms. Cain, Ms. Barnes and Mr. Leye were released from the scene.
The Ohio State Patrol was assisted on the scene by Green and Union Township Fire/EMS along with the Ohio Department of Transportation. US 23 northbound was rerouted for approximately one hour and thirty minutes across SR 207 during the investigation.
The crash is currently under investigation.
