CIRCLEVILLE – An Amanda man remains in critical and unstable condition Friday after a Thursday morning crash on U.S. Route 23 at Tarlton Road.

Jeffrey Stoneburner, 21, of Amanda, was transported by MedFlight to Grant Medical Center in Columbus following the crash that occurred about 8:17 a.m. Thursday.

According to Deputy Matt Lane, Stoneburner was traveling southbound on U.S. Route 23 in a Volkswagen Jetta when he attempted to turn left onto Tarlton Road and turned into the path of a northbound semi truck.

Lane said the cab of the semi crashed completely through the car into the driver’s side where Stoneburner was seated.

The driver of the semi and a second vehicle that suffered minor damage in the accident were not injured, Lane said.

The Pickaway Township and Circleville fire departments handled the rescue at the scene, which remained closed until about 2:30 p.m. Thursday for the investigation and clean-up. Traffic was rerouted through the area during that time.

The crash remains under investigation by the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office.
