Alfredia (Callihan) Ratcliff, age 84, of Newark, formerly of Stoutsville, died Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation Center in Newark. Her loving children were by her side.
Alfredia was born July 29, 1932, in Argillite, Kentucky, to the late Delmus and Georgia Callihan.
Alfredia always put family first and was no stranger to hard work. She even owned Stoutsville Restaurant for four years, where she prepared delicious home-cooked meals and homemade pies. She and her husband, Merle, were pivotal in starting the Stoutsville Fire Department.
She was a faithful member of Dresbach Church in many different capacities.
Alfredia was a warm and caring person who had a beautiful, friendly smile people couldn’t be helped but drawn to. She was the first person in church to greet new guests and make them feel at home. She never let someone go hungry, and was always there when needed. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Left to mourn her passing are her children, Diane (Lyle) Rhodeback of Johnstown, Monta Kay (Lloyd) Noble of Tarlton and Steve (Jane) Ratcliff of Chillicothe; her grandchildren, Todd (Lhet) Rhodeback, Jeremy (Tara) Ratcliff, Angela (Russell) Weekley, Stephanie (David) Rife, Travis Ratcliff and Annette (Josh) Burkhouse; as well as many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Irma Wynkoop of Circleville; three brothers, Charles (Bob), James (Jim) and Joseph (Joe) Callihan, all from Nebraska; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle; three sisters; and a great-great-grandson.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 16, 2017, at Defenbaugh-Wise-Schoedinger Funeral Home, 151 E. Main St., Circleville. Her funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 2017, at the funeral home with Pastor Dan Sheperd officiating. Burial will follow at Tarlton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Dresbach Church of Circleville or Hospice of Central Ohio in her memory.
