Robert A. Schofield

CIRCLEVILLE – A local man was found guilty of one count of domestic violence following a trial Thursday in Pickaway County Common Pleas Court.

Robert A. Schofield, 50, of East Mill Street, Circleville, was found guilty of the misdemeanor charge by a jury of six men and six women in the one-day trial. The jury deliberated about 15 minutes before reaching a verdict.

Schofield was found not guilty of an additional count of domestic violence, in which he had been accused of striking a minor child during the same altercation.

Evidence presented at trial revealed that Schofield knowingly caused or attempted to cause physical harm to Susan M. Gates, a family member, on Jan. 16 at his Mill Street residence.

The state of Ohio was represented by Heather Armstrong, assistant county prosecutor, who called three witnesses to testify at the trial.

Schofield was represented by attorney Matthew O’Leary, who called no witnesses for the defense.

Schofield was ordered by Judge P. Randall Knece to be held in the Pickaway County Jail pending the completion of a pre-sentence investigation and report.
