Ralph Eugene “Gene” Kerns was 77 years old when he went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

He was born Oct. 13, 1938, to the late Glen and Blanche Kerns.

He was the owner of his own carpet cleaning, installation and water restoration business. A big joy in his life was being a deputy for the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Department. He retired from there after about 35 years of service.

Gene was also a member of the Nicholas Drive Church. Gene was a great dad and grandpa and loved his family.

Gene is survived by wife, Janet; Karen (Harvey) Puckett, John (Ida) Kennedy, Michele (Scott) Willoughby and Michael (Angie) Kennedy; and grandkids, Darcy Hughes, Craig Puckett and Ashley McJunkin. The loves of his life were his great-grandkids, Macy, Ellie and Liam, and his faithful dog, Allie. He is also survived by brother, Chuck.

He was preceded in death by parents; infant sister, Peggy; and brother, Steve.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions in Gene’s name to the funeral home.

Also a special thank you to Berger Hospice team. These girls were awesome and a great comfort.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015, at the Wellman Funeral Home with Pastor Keith Williams officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday.
