Hocking Sheriff Reports for Week of May 30, 2020

Hocking County Sheriff Lanny E. North reports:
May 30, 2020
Deputies responded to SR 180 to look for a vehicle which had fled from the scene of a crash. While actively searching for the vehicle, deputies received information that the vehicle was on SR 374. A short time later, deputies located and stopped the vehicle on SR 374. Deputies held the driver until Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, who were handling the crash investigation, could respond.

Deputies responded to an East Fork Rd. residence for a domestic argument. No violence occurred and no charges were filed.

Deputies responded to a Cantwell Cliffs Rd. residence for a criminal damaging complaint. The complainant told deputies that the previous evening they had saw two individuals on their property, but by the time deputies arrived they were gone. The next morning the complainant found two tires slashed.

Deputies responded to a Pole Ridge Rd. residence for a breaking and entering complaint. The victim told deputies that someone had cut the lock off the gate to the driveway, entered the property and removed several items. The case was forwarded to the detective bureau.

Deputies responded to a Happy Hollow Rd. residence for a neighbor dispute. No charges were filed.

Deputies responded to a Cohagen Rd. residence for an unruly juvenile.

Deputies responded to a SR 595 residence for a domestic argument. No violence occurred and no charges were filed.

A Meada Rd. resident reported to deputies that a neighbor’s trailer had disconnected from their vehicle and struck their fence causing damage.

Deputies responded to a Charles St. residence for theft complaint. The complainant told deputies that someone entered their garage and removed a rototiller.

Deputies responded to a breaking and entering complaint at a Gallagher Ave. business. The complainant told deputies that their storage unit had been broken into. Deputies collected evidence to submit to the BCI crime lab for analysis. The case remains under investigation.

Deputies responded to a SR 278 residence where a juvenile had taken an excessive amount of prescription medication and fled. Deputies located the juvenile a short time later and HCEMS transported to HVCH.

Deputies responded to Homer St. after a report of someone jumping in the Hocking River. Deputies located the two people, spoke with them and determined that one individual had made threats of suicide. They were transported to HVCH for evaluation.

Deputies received a complaint from the family of a missing person from Whitehall. The family members questioned why deputies were not actively looking for their family member who was possibly in Hocking County. Deputies explained that we had not been notified, but contacted Whitehall police. Whitehall police misinterpreted cell phone data and originally thought that the missing person was in Hocking County. The data was incorrect and the person was located in Franklin County.
