Hocking County OH- Hocking County Sheriff Lanny E. North reports:

September 3, 2020
Deputies responded to a mental health emergency after residents had requested deputies. Deputies found the person in mental health crisis and due to their condition and the conditions of property, deputies summoned HCEMS and Logan Fire for assistance. With the assistance of HCEMS and Logan Fire, they were able to safely take the person into custody for transport to HVCH. During the incident, deputies were assaulted. The person was transported to HVCH for treatment and evaluation.

September 4, 2020
A Calico Ridge Rd. resident came to the Sheriff’s Office to report a theft of medication and other items. The case remains under investigation.

September 7, 2020
Deputies responded to an Adams Ave. residence for a criminal trespass and criminal mischief complaint. The residents discovered that overnight someone had entered their unlocked vehicle at their residence. After reviewing security video and receiving tips of the person responsible, deputies requested criminal charges and a warrant from the Prosecutor’s Office.

September 8, 2020
Deputies received a complaint of domestic violence from a third party. After speaking to the alleged victim, they denied any assault and refused to file a report. The case was forwarded to the Sheriff’s Office Victim’s Advocate for follow up.

September 9, 2020
Deputies responded to a Middlefork Rd. residence for an unruly juvenile. The juvenile ran away from their guardians after an argument. Deputies began an investigation and entered the juvenile into NCIC as missing. Deputies received information that led them to locate the juvenile in Lancaster. On Friday September 11, 2020 detectives, with the assistance of Lancaster Police located the juvenile in Lancaster. The juvenile was turned over to Hocking County Children’s Services.

September 9, 2020
Deputies responded to a SR 93 residence for a criminal trespass complaint. The complaint told deputies that a neighbor came onto the property and mowed the grass. After talking to the neighbor, deputies learned that the property owner had asked him to cut the grass as they are in the process of evicting the tenants and selling the property. Deputies asked the neighbor to refrain from being on the property until the sale is final or the tenants are evicted.

Deputies responded to a SR 56 residence where the resident found some tools in a barn. The resident provided information on the person who put the tools in the barn. Deputies seized the tools.

Deputies responded to a Woltz Rd. residence for a theft complaint. The complainant told deputies that a Biden political sign had been stolen.

September 10, 2020
Deputies came upon a U-Haul truck at the roadside rest on U.S. 33 with no visible license plates. After making contact with the occupants, it was learned that the truck was overdue and had been reported stolen. The truck was towed by U-Haul and the case remains under investigation.

Deputies responded to a SR 595 residence for a drug overdose. When deputies arrived the person was alert and conscious, but was having breathing issues. HCEMS was summoned and transported to HVCH.

Deputies responded to a West Logan residence for a well-being check. Deputies found two people in crisis and summoned HCEMS to assist. HCEMS transported one person and deputies transported the other person to HVCH for treatment and evaluation.

Deputies responded to a request from Nelsonville Police regarding a stolen vehicle that a person had located on Snake Hollow Rd. Deputies responded, confirmed the vehicle was stolen and notified Vinton County Sheriff’s Office. The vehicle was located in a very rough area to remove, had been wrecked and a tree had fallen on the vehicle.

September 10, 2020
Deputies investigated a single vehicle crash on Dupler Rd. The driver lost control of the vehicle, left the right side of the roadway and struck a tree causing disabling damage. No injuries were reported.

September 11, 2020
Deputies responded to a vehicle on Starr Route Rd. causing a traffic hazard. Deputies located the abandoned vehicle. The vehicle did not have a valid registration and was indeed a traffic hazard. Deputies had the vehicle towed.

Deputies responded to a Dawley-New Pittsburg Rd. residence after the resident had been alerted by their cameras that motion had been detected. The resident saw a person enter their garage. A neighbor had responded and didn’t find anyone in the garage. Another neighbor had witnessed a person enter a neighbor’s vehicle and then run into the woods. Deputies searched the area, but didn’t locate anyone.

A Nickle Plate Rd. resident reported to the Sheriff’s Office that they had been scammed. They told deputies that they had received a Facebook message that if they sent a picture of their driver’s license and sent a $1000 payment through PayPal they would receive $25,000. They sent the money and realized they had been scammed. The Sheriff’s Office, once again, urges residents to not send money for any type of social media request, telephone call or mailings that claim by sending money, paying taxes or any other type of money exchange to receive money is a fraud. The money is most likely going through several bank accounts to eventually be transferred to another country. You will not get your money returned.

A juvenile came into the Sherriff’s Office and told a deputy that his foster mother wanted to give him back to the system. Deputies spoke with the foster mother, who told deputies that the juvenile had attempted to buy marijuana from an acquaintance using counterfeit currency. The juvenile told deputies that they had obtained the counterfeit currency from a foster brother and sister. The juvenile requested not to go back to the residence due to drug use and violence from the foster family. Children’s Services were contacted, who took custody of the juvenile.

Deputies responded to a domestic complaint at a Water St. residence. After arriving, deputies learned the incident was an unruly juvenile. Deputies spoke with all the parties and forwarded the case to Children’s Services.

Deputies responded to a breaking and entering complaint at a SR 664 residence. The residence was not occupied and was entered by cutting holes in a wall. A washer and dryer, several window air conditioners, microwave oven, scuba tank and other miscellaneous tools were stolen. The case was forwarded to the detective bureau.

Deputies were notified by Common Pleas Court personnel that a person on bond had cut and removed their electronic monitoring device. A person called the Sheriff’s Office to report finding the device on East St. in the City of Logan. Logan Police were requested to pick the monitoring device up for the court, but refused. Sheriff’s deputies went to the residence and picked the device up. Charges and a request for a warrant were forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office.

Deputies responded to a SR 664 residence for a domestic argument. No violence occurred and no charges were filed.

Deputies on patrol in Laurelville received a report of a runaway juvenile. Deputies requested that they return to the residence to see if the juvenile had returned. When they returned the juvenile was there. The report was forwarded to Children’s Services.

Deputies responded to a Thompson Ridge Rd. for a criminal damaging complaint. The complainant told deputies that two males entered their driveway and when they went to inquire, the two males began to yell at them. The two males left and returned a short time later and hit their mailbox with baseball bats. The case remains under investigation.

Deputies responded to a Dawley Rd. residence for a theft complaint. The complainant told deputies that between September 11 and the 13th someone had busted a window on their vehicle and stole items. Deputies processed the vehicle for DNA. The case remains under investigation.

Deputies responded to a SR 93 residence for a breaking and entering and theft complaint. The complainant told deputies that someone had entered their work vehicle and garage and stole several items. The case remains under investigation.

Deputies responded to an East Fork Rd. residence for a suspicious vehicle/persons after their surveillance video showed a vehicle driving by and taking pictures of the residence.

September 14, 2020
Deputies responded to a report of domestic violence in a moving vehicle on U.S. 33. Deputies eventually located the parties at a Haydenville Rd. residence. The couple told deputies that they had an argument over money and no violence had occurred other than one party had bene accidently elbowed. One party was leaving the property. No charges were filed.

Deputies responded to a Union Rd. residence for a protection order violation. The complainant told deputies that they had received two phone calls from a protected party in a protection order and would like it documented. Deputies saw the phone log and a copy of the protection order.

Deputies responded to a SR 328 residence for a criminal trespass complaint. The complainant showed deputies a video of an unidentified male opening their screen door to the residence at 4:36 A.M. and then leaving.
