OHIO – Governor Dewine said today he will issue a order making masks mandatory in schools for kids as young as 3 years old.

This new order comes after recommendations from American Academy of Pediatrics that said, “OCHA recommends all children wear face coverings/masks when retiring to school consistent with AAP and CDC guidelines with some exceptions.

Children under 2 years in age
Any child unable to remove the face covering without assistance
A child with a significant behavioral/psycological issue undergoing treatment that is exacerbated specifically by the use of a facial covering
A child living with severe autism or with extreme developmental delay who may become agitated or anxious wearing a mask.
A child with a facial deformity that causes airway obstruction.

Beyond these exceptions the OCHA says there are no diagnoses that warrant exemptions from wearing a face covering.

Dewine says they will work with FEMA to distrubute masks for use by students and staff.

Before this recommendation longer kids in lower elementary classes did not have to wear masks. Circleville City schools has already made the announcement
