Athens County OH- Traffic Stop Leads to Warrants and Pending Drug Trafficking Charges

Athens County OH- On August 20, 2020, The Criminal Interdiction Units conducted a traffic stop on US Route 33.

Upon contact with the occupants, criminal indicators were observed therefore, K9 Bora was deployed and indicated on the vehicle. The search yielded suspected methamphetamine, digital scales and packaging materials.

Deputies identified Thomas R. Smith, age 30, of Shawnee, who had active warrants from both Hocking County and Logan Police Department.

Deputies also identified Kisha F. Hooper, age 23, of New Holland, who was arrested after she was found to have suspected methamphetamine in her possession.

During the stop, a search warrant was obtained for a room within the Sunset Motel on Columbus Road, Upon execution of that warrant, deputies located additional evidence of drug trafficking, including abuse instruments, packaging materials, suspected methamphetamine, and an additional unknown substance.

Hooper was arrested and transported to SEROJ without incident an booked on possession of drugs, a felony of the 4th degree. Smith was also arrested on his active warrants and transported to SEORJ. Additional charges are expected pending lab results.
