OHIO – A full moon happens on Halloween once every 19 years, a blue moon on Halloween is even rarer, but that’s what is happening on this crazy year of 2020.
If you want to get a little more superstitious because of 2020, this October will also host two full moons which again is pretty rare. Once on Oct. 1 and Oct. 31.
Lets explain the math, average lunar cycle is roughly 29½ days, two moons in the same month don’t happen very often, only every few years does that randomly fall within the same month. Thats where the phrase, “once in a blue moon” comes from. Then you add in the 19 years a full moon occurs on Halloween and, whoa mind blown, and you better enjoy it because this cycle will only happen six times in a century and the next projected full moon on Halloween is planned for 2039.
So let the superstitious fly, because if there was a year for things to go crazy this is the one. Make sure you are packing holy water, a wooden stake and maybe a silver bullet.
