COLUMBUS, OH — Your doorbell camera could soon play a bigger role in solving local crimes. Ring, the home security company known for its smart doorbells and neighborhood alerts, announced this week an expansion of its Community Requests program — giving more local public safety agencies access to the tool through new technology partnerships.

The Community Requests feature allows law enforcement agencies to ask Ring users for video footage related to specific investigations, such as thefts, vandalism, or missing persons cases. Participation is entirely voluntary, and agencies must provide details like the incident’s location, timeframe, and a unique investigation code before any request is sent to Ring customers in the area.

Ring says it will now expand access to the feature through integrations with Flock Safety’s Nova platform and FlockOS, two systems widely used by law enforcement for evidence management and investigative work. The company also plans to partner with additional public safety technology providers in the future.

“At Ring, our mission has always been to make neighborhoods safer,” the company said in a statement. “By expanding Community Requests to more certified platforms, we’re empowering even more communities to play an active role in public safety.”

The company emphasized that privacy remains a top priority. Law enforcement agencies cannot see which Ring customers receive notifications or choose to respond, and users can disable Community Requests notifications at any time.

The expansion is expected to roll out in the coming months, enabling more local agencies to collaborate securely with residents to solve crimes faster — all while giving homeowners full control over what they share.

Ring hopes the program will continue to strengthen trust between communities and public safety officials.
“Every neighborhood deserves safety and security,” the company said. “By working together, we can make our communities safer places to live, work, and play.”
