POWELL, OH — The holiday season in Central Ohio is about to sparkle even brighter as the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium prepares to launch the 37th annual Wildlights celebration — a beloved tradition that transforms the Zoo into a glowing wonderland of more than millions of LED lights and festive displays.

Powered by AEP Ohio, the event runs from November 21, 2025, through January 4, 2026, blending holiday magic with sustainability and the Zoo’s conservation mission. Each year, Wildlights draws hundreds of thousands of visitors and supports the local economy, making it one of Central Ohio’s favorite winter destinations.

New for 2025

This year’s Wildlights introduces several brand-new experiences and light features, including:

  • Adventure Cove Animated Pixel Passage: A 200-foot tunnel glowing with more than 32,000 pixels — the equivalent of 2.5 miles of lights.
  • Two New Musical Light Displays at Conservation Lake: “Global Celebrations” and “Electric Holiday,” featuring illuminated trees, laser lights, and animal figures set to music.
  • Global Traditions Plaza: Cultural silhouettes celebrating holiday traditions from around the world.
  • North America Trek: The Zoo’s newest region illuminated with holiday lighting throughout the animal exhibits.
  • Elephant Habitat Projections: A new digital art projection location offering a stunning light show alongside the Zoo’s elephant herd.
  • Character Ambassador Meet and Greets: Two new themed photo opportunities with the Zoo’s popular Character Ambassadors.

Returning Favorites

Beloved Wildlights traditions will also return, including Dave the Snowman greeting guests at the entrance, the Sparkling Spruce light show, Notes of Hope messages for OhioHealth patients, and the Oak Ridge Bears Jingle Jamboree in Asia Quest. Families can also enjoy classics like the Dino Island Yuletide Boat Ride and the 12 Days of Wildlights Train Ride, presented by Primrose Schools.

See the Animals, Too

While the lights shine bright, many animals will still be visible in their indoor habitats, and some — including reindeer, tigers, sea lions, and Asian elephants — can be seen outdoors at select times. Visitors are encouraged to arrive before 4 p.m. to catch the animals before they settle in for the evening.

Plan Ahead

Because Wildlights draws large crowds, the Zoo recommends guests review parking and traffic information ahead of time. Both entrances will be open, with directional signage and staff on hand to assist. Full details are available on the Zoo’s website at www.columbuszoo.org.

A Celebration That Gives Back

“Wildlights is a Central Ohio holiday treasure that brings people together, supports local businesses, and reflects the joy of the season while honoring our commitment to caring for the natural world,” said Tom Schmid, president and CEO of the Columbus Zoo and The Wilds. “We’re proud to celebrate this tradition in an energy-conscious way thanks to our partners at AEP Ohio.”
