WASHINGTON, DC – The cost of a First-Class Mail Forever stamp rose to 78 cents on Sunday, July 13, 2025, reflecting a 5-cent increase as part of a 7.4% average hike across mailing services, according to USA Today. The adjustment aligns with the U.S. Postal Service’s (USPS) “Delivering for America” 10-year plan, designed to modernize operations and ensure financial sustainability. As an independent federal entity, USPS relies on postage, product, and service revenue, not tax dollars, to fund its operations

This is the 20th time that the US Postal Service has increased the price of postage since 2001

.In addition to the Forever stamp increase, several other rate changes took effect:

  • Domestic postcards: up from 56 cents to 61 cents
  • Metered 1-ounce letters: up from 69 cents to 74 cents
  • Additional ounce for single-piece letters: up from 28 cents to 29 cents
  • International postcards and 1-ounce letters: up from $1.65 to $1.70

In a rare reduction, USPS lowered postal insurance costs by 12% for package mailers. The changes reflect the agency’s ongoing efforts to balance operational costs while maintaining service levels, with further updates possible as the plan progresses.
