SCIOTO TOWNSHIP, OH — The Ohio State Highway Patrol has released the identities of two men killed in a violent head-on collision Wednesday afternoon on US-23.

The crash occurred at approximately 12:27 p.m. on April 8, 2026, near milepost 11 in Ross County. According to investigators from the Patrol’s Chillicothe Post, the accident was caused by a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction on the divided highway.

Wrong-Way Impact

A 2010 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 76-year-old Dave Boggs of Waverly, was traveling the wrong way in the southeast lanes of US-23. The truck struck a 2008 Chevrolet Uplander head-on. The Uplander was being operated by 39-year-old Jason Day of Chillicothe.

Tragically, the impact was so severe that both Mr. Boggs and Mr. Day were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Authorities confirmed that there were no other passengers in either vehicle.

Extended Traffic Delays

The southbound lanes of US-23 were heavily impacted for most of the afternoon. The highway was reduced to a single lane for approximately three hours as troopers and reconstruction teams worked to document the scene and clear the wreckage.

Assisting the Ohio State Highway Patrol at the scene were:

  • Scioto Township Fire and EMS
  • VA Fire and EMS
  • Ross County Sheriff’s Office
  • Ross County Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT)

The cause of the crash—and why the Silverado was traveling in the wrong direction—remains under active investigation by the Chillicothe Post.
