Update – Serious Lawnmower Crash in South Bloomfield Injures Two

HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A serious traffic accident occurred on State Route 316 in Harrison Township, Pickaway County, on July 21, 2025, resulting in injuries to two individuals, according to a report from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The incident took place at approximately 7:15 p.m. when a 2017 Nissan Rogue, driven by 62-year-old Laura Daulton of Ashville, collided with a 2024 Hustler zero-turn lawnmower operated by 67-year-old Charles Michael Tackett of South Bloomfield. Both vehicles were traveling westbound on SR-316 when the crash occurred.According to the report, Tackett’s vehicle was partially on the shoulder when it was rear-ended by Daulton’s Nissan. The impact caused Tackett to be ejected from his vehicle, which then rolled over and came to rest in a bush. Both vehicles sustained disabling damage.

Emergency responders from Harrison Township Medic transported both drivers to Grant Medical Center in Columbus for treatment. Daulton, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained suspected serious injuries. Tackett, who was not wearing safety equipment, also suffered suspected serious injuries and was ejected from the vehicle. The crash occurred in a work zone on a straight, level section of the two-way road, under clear weather and daylight conditions. The posted speed limit was 50 mph, with Daulton’s vehicle traveling at an estimated 50 mph and Tackett’s at 5 mph. Authorities cited Daulton for operating a motor vehicle in violation of the clear distance ahead rule. (Ohio Revised Code section 4511.21(A))

The Ohio State Highway Patrol, led by Trooper Seth Moody, investigated the scene, which was cleared by 10:44 p.m. The roadway was closed for approximately 208 minutes. Scioto Valley Towing removed both vehicles from the scene.

No alcohol or drugs were suspected as factors in the crash, and no additional citations were reported. The investigation remains ongoing.
