CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A multi-agency undercover investigation targeting online child exploitation resulted in the arrest of a Hilliard man after he allegedly attempted to meet a juvenile in Chillicothe, according to the Chillicothe Police Department.

Detectives with the Chillicothe Police Department partnered with the Ross County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation in a coordinated operation aimed at identifying adults seeking sexual contact with minors online.

As part of the investigation, undercover agents posed as a fictitious juvenile female on websites and social media platforms. Police said the suspect was directed to meet at a residence used for the operation in the 400 block of Church Street.

According to police reports, ICAC Agent Molly Katusin posted an undercover advertisement on Skipthegames.com. A male later identified as 38-year-old Nicholas Chabot began communicating with the agent via text message. During the exchange, the agent identified herself as a 15-year-old girl. Investigators said the conversation later turned sexual in nature, with discussions of potential sexual activity.

Police said Chabot agreed to meet the juvenile and arrived at the Church Street address driving a 2005 Mercedes-Benz registered to a family member. Officers took him into custody as he approached the residence.

A search of Chabot reportedly uncovered condoms, a black iPhone, and a small bag containing a white powder. Police said Chabot admitted the substance was cocaine. He was advised of his Miranda rights and transported to the Ross County Law Enforcement Complex for questioning.

During a recorded interview, investigators said Chabot acknowledged continuing communication after being told the individual was 15 years old and admitted purchasing condoms after learning the juvenile’s stated age. He also admitted to possessing cocaine, according to police. Chabot was subsequently booked into the Ross County Jail.

Authorities obtained search warrants for Chabot’s vehicle and cell phone, both of which were seized as evidence. The Ohio State Highway Patrol Cyber Crimes Unit later analyzed the phone and confirmed chat messages related to the investigation. Police reported no child sexual abuse material was found during the forensic examination.

The investigation remains ongoing.
