CHILLICOTHE, OH — Two local women are facing a series of theft charges after a Chillicothe Police investigation linked them to a string of shoplifting incidents at the Walmart on North Bridge Street dating back to March.

According to police reports, officers were dispatched to the store on June 4 in response to a call from Walmart’s loss prevention team, who had detained two women suspected of attempting to steal nearly $290 worth of merchandise. Items in the attempted theft included fishing equipment, men’s shorts, jeans, and various other goods.

Surveillance footage and internal store investigations revealed that the suspects had allegedly been involved in at least seven separate incidents involving theft, concealment, and switching price tags to pay less for higher-priced merchandise.

The total value of the stolen items across all incidents is estimated to exceed $750, and includes a wide variety of goods such as cookware, beauty products, beef packs, shoes, chicken wings, pens, and fishing gear.

Each incident involved tactics such as:

  • Under-ringing items at self-checkout
  • Failing to scan merchandise
  • Switching sale tags on higher-priced items
  • Concealing merchandise while appearing to pay for other goods

One of the suspects was also seen acting as the lookout or distraction while the other concealed items during checkout.

Chillicothe police have issued multiple summons citations for Maggy Cook and Patty Sherrick for each of the reported incidents. The suspects are scheduled to appear in Chillicothe Municipal Court on June 9, 2025, at 9 a.m.

Walmart loss prevention staff provided surveillance footage and detailed documentation for each of the thefts, which occurred on:

  • March 16 ($108.46 stolen)
  • April 2 ($33.93)
  • April 7 ($75.85)
  • April 13 ($110.70)
  • May 6 ($127.75)
  • May 13 ($128.96)
  • June 4 (attempted theft of $289.56)

As of now, none of the stolen items have been recovered.

Police said the suspects are believed to have acted together in most incidents, and the investigation into the full extent of their activity is ongoing.
