PICKAWAY COUNTY, OH — A two-story home west of Circleville is a total loss after an early morning fire tore through the structure Sunday, prompting a multi-department response.
According to Pickaway Township Fire Chief H. DeSanto, crews were dispatched around 4:48 a.m. to the 11000 block of U.S. 22 West for a report of a fully engulfed structure fire. When Engine 650 arrived on scene, firefighters found a two-story single-family home completely consumed by flames.
An aggressive defensive attack was launched to contain the blaze and protect nearby property. The fire was brought under control and fully extinguished, but the home was deemed a total loss.
Chief DeSanto confirmed that no injuries were reported. The occupants were not home when the fire broke out.
Documents indicate the property had recently been sold and was possibly under construction or renovation at the time of the fire.
The roadway was shut down for several hours for operations, including several tankers that travelled back and for to bring water to the fire.
The Pickaway Township Fire Department led the response, with assistance from multiple mutual aid companies, including the Southwest Pickaway Fire District, Tri-County Fire, Washington Court House Fire Department, Box65 Rehab Unit, and the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office. The Ohio State Highway Patrol also responded to assist with traffic control in the area.
Crews remained on scene for several hours, ensuring hot spots were extinguished. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
