Two New ODOT Road Improvement Impacts Start Next Week in Ross County

ROSS COUNTY, OH — The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has released a construction update detailing multiple upcoming and ongoing highway projects that will impact traffic across Ross County through 2025 and beyond. All work is weather permitting, and motorists are encouraged to stay informed by visiting OHGO.com or following ODOT District 9 on social media.

New Projects Starting June 2

  • U.S. 35 Resurfacing
    A major resurfacing project will begin June 2 on U.S. Route 35, stretching from the Jackson County line to Vigo Road. Traffic will be maintained with at least one lane open in each direction throughout the project.
    Estimated completion: Fall 2025
  • Great Seal State Park Improvements
    Resurfacing will begin June 2 on N 28 and N 38 inside Great Seal State Park. At least one lane will be open on all affected routes during construction.
    Estimated completion: Summer 2025

Ongoing Projects

  • C.R. 222 Bridge Replacement (Charleston Pike)
    Construction is underway between Blacksmith Hill Road and Concord Church Road for a bridge replacement.
    Traffic Impact: All lanes remain open.
    Estimated completion: Fall 2026
  • State Route 159 (Bridge Street) Safety Improvements
    Work continues on Bridge Street to enhance intersections, lighting, pedestrian access, and traffic control.
    Traffic Impact: Two lanes will be open in both directions between North Plaza Blvd and the Chillicothe Mall entrance. Turn lanes remain accessible, but access to River Trace Lane from Consumer Center Drive is restricted.
    Project start date: April 7
  • State Route 207 Bridge Replacement
    S.R. 207 is fully closed between Rinkliff Lane and Stone Road for a bridge replacement.
    Detour: S.R. 138 → U.S. 35 → S.R. 104
    Estimated completion: Spring 2025
  • U.S. Route 23 Resurfacing
    Crews are resurfacing U.S. 23 from S.R. 207 to U.S. 35.
    Traffic Impact:
    • U.S. 23 NB traffic heading to U.S. 35 WB must use the far left lane and crossover system.
    • Traffic heading to U.S. 23 NB must stay in the far right lane.
    • Access to U.S. 23 NB remains open from East Main Street, but access to U.S. 35 WB is restricted.
    • East Main Street drivers heading to U.S. 35 WB will be detoured via N. Bridge Street.
    • At least one lane will be maintained throughout the project.
      Estimated completion: Fall 2025

ODOT reminds motorists to stay alert, reduce speed, and watch for stopped traffic in all work zones. Ohio’s “Move Over, Slow Down” law is in effect and enforced to protect road crews and the traveling public.
