Two Injured One Serious After Pickup Strikes Bridge in Pickaway Township

PICKAWAY TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Two people were injured Sunday evening after a pickup truck crossed the center line and struck a bridge on Tarlton Road, according to the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred at approximately 7:48 p.m. on Feb. 22 along Tarlton Road near Stoneridge Drive in Pickaway Township.

Authorities say a 2003 Ford Ranger traveling eastbound crossed left of center and hit the bridge structure. The vehicle sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene.

The driver, 76-year-old Clarence William Saunders Jr. of Circleville, and a passenger, 56-year-old Amy Marie Hill of Circleville, both suffered possible injuries. Both were transported by Pickaway Township EMS to Berger Hospital for treatment.

Investigators reported snowy and icy roadway conditions at the time of the crash. The road was not lighted, and weather conditions were listed as snow with ice present on the asphalt surface. The posted speed limit in the area is 55 mph. Deputies estimated the vehicle’s speed at approximately 35 mph.

Saunders was cited for operating a vehicle without reasonable control, according to the crash report.

The roadway was closed for approximately one hour while crews investigated and cleared the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
