Ross and Pickaway Counties — The “Wild Ones,” a group dedicated to growing native plants, spoke to the Chillicothe Garden Club recently about sowing seeds now, and other topics. Two members of the Wild Ones South Central Ohio Chapter spoke in the monthly meeting on January 19th, 2026, at Explorer Yoga in Chillicothe.

Donna Patrick and Denise Ruby are part of a national nonprofit with the vision “native plants and natural landscapes thriving in every community.”

They spoke on enjoying the beauty of nature but also seeing the science of it. Native wildflowers are a big part of that – not just as being beautiful, but as habitat for pollinators and other insects and animals. They also pointed out that native plants can save money on landscaping.

Hear Patrick and Ruby in their own words in the below video interview. (Their “winter sowing” in reused milk jugs on Monday was cancelled because of the weather, but may be rescheduled.)

The Wild Ones South Central Ohio Chapter has a website, Facebook page, and Instagram account.

The Chillicothe Garden Club meets most third Monday middays at different locations and have various speakers and projects. Contact Priscilla Steele in Chillicothe for meeting information.

Patrick and Ruby explain the organization and what they do.
