Teen Driver Cited After Left-Turn Crash with Semi Sends Two to Hospital in Circleville

Circleville, Ohio – November 4, 2025 – A 17-year-old driver was cited for failure to yield after turning left into the path of an oncoming semi-truck Tuesday morning on East Main Street, sending himself and his 15-year-old passenger to the hospital with minor injuries, Circleville Police reported.

The crash happened at 7:24 a.m. at the intersection of East Main Street (State Route 22) and State Route 56 under clear daylight conditions on dry pavement.

The 17 year old teen, of Circleville, was driving a 2007 gray Honda Civic eastbound on East Main Street with his 15-year-old brother. As Frazier attempted a left turn, he failed to yield to a westbound 2008 white Mack semi-trailer (Unit 2) driven by Mathias N. Swackhammer, 24, of Circleville. The front of the Honda struck the front of the Mack in an angle collision within the intersection, which is controlled by traffic signals.

Both Frazier brothers reported suspected minor injuries and were transported by Circleville Fire Department EMS to OhioHealth Berger Hospital. Swackhammer was uninjured. The Teen was issued citation #14139 for violation of Ohio Revised Code 4511.43B – right-of-way at through highways. No alcohol or drugs were suspected. All occupants were wearing seat belts. Airbags deployed in the Honda but not in the semi. Vehicle Damage:

  • Honda Civic: Disabling front-end damage; towed by Scioto Valley Wrecker Service.
  • Mack Semi: Minor front-end damage.

The scene was cleared by 8:14 a.m. Officer Ryan Mays investigated, with Sgt. Matthew Harrell reviewing the report. No other citations were issued.
