ASHVILLE, Ohio — A standout student-athlete from Teays Valley East Middle School is being recognized for her perseverance and success on the wrestling mat.

Melody Rohner captured first place in the 106-pound weight class at the OHWAY State Tournament and followed it up with a sixth-place finish at the OAC State Tournament the very next day—an impressive back-to-back performance at two of Ohio’s most competitive youth wrestling events.

Her accomplishments mark a significant milestone after falling short of placing at OHWAY just one year ago. Determined to improve, Rohner committed herself to an intense training schedule, practicing five days a week for nearly 10 months.

Now in her fifth year of wrestling, Rohner’s hard work has paid off. This season, she not only secured a state title at OHWAY but also earned her first placement at OAC—an achievement that reflects both growth and resilience.

Rohner wrapped up her eighth-grade season with an outstanding 48-12 record, cementing her status as one of the area’s rising young wrestlers.

Her family credited much of her success to the support and coaching she received along the way, including guidance from the Circleville Youth Wrestling Club, Olivia Shore of Pursuit Wrestling, and Chad Havens and the Teays Valley wrestling program.

With her middle school career concluding on a high note, Rohner’s achievements highlight what dedication and determination can accomplish—both on and off the mat.
