CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio – Sofidel America has completed a major expansion at its Circleville facility, starting up a third paper machine that will significantly increase production and create new jobs in Pickaway County.

The new Valmet DCT 200 machine, which went online September 4, adds 70,000 tons of annual tissue production capacity. With this addition, Circleville now produces more than 200,000 tons per year, making it Sofidel’s largest production site worldwide. Globally, the company’s capacity rises to nearly 2 million tons annually.

The $185 million investment, announced in 2023, included construction of a new building and installation of the state-of-the-art machine. Once fully operational, the project is expected to generate around 80 new jobs, further boosting Sofidel’s role in the local economy.

“This milestone reflects the strength of our U.S. operations and the dedication of the teams who made it possible,” company officials said in a statement. “The successful startup of our third paper machine in Circleville represents a significant step forward in Sofidel’s growth strategy.”

The Circleville plant, which opened in 2018, continues to play a key role in Sofidel’s North American operations. The company says the expansion underscores its long-term commitment to producing sustainable tissue products while supporting the communities where it operates.
