Semi-Truck Collides with Train in Chillicothe, Driver Seriously Injured

CHILLICOTHE, OH — The Chillicothe Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that occurred at 9:34 AM EDT on Friday, May 23, 2025, near 5940 State Route 159 in Ross County, according to an update released at 07:03 PM EDT. The incident involved a Norfolk Southern train, carrying approximately 88 containers, traveling northeast along tracks parallel to SR-159, which collided with a 1989 Mack dump truck.

The truck, driven by Andrew J. Jensen, 37, of Athens, Ohio, was crossing the tracks westbound when it failed to yield, resulting in a heavy impact. The truck was struck, overturned, and came to rest upside down between two sets of tracks. Jensen was ejected and suffered serious injuries. He was initially transported from the scene by Green Township EMS/Fire Department and later airlifted to Grant Medical Center in Columbus for treatment.

The Norfolk Southern train crew reported no injuries and stopped approximately one mile from the crash site. Train routes in the area were disrupted for about five hours while the truck was removed and track repairs were completed. Assisting agencies included the Ross County Sheriff’s Department and Norfolk Southern Police Department. The investigation remains ongoing.
