COLUMBUS, Ohio–July 22, 2025–Recent Westfall High School graduate Marianna Packer is the 2025 Rumpke Waste & Recycling Scholarship for Pickaway County winner. This scholarship awards $1,000.00 to a graduate in Pickaway County, Ohio, pursuing a two or four-year degree at an accredited institution, including vocational/trade schools.
Winners are chosen based on their commitment to their academics, environmental stewardship and desire to serve the community. Marianna plans to attend The Ohio State University to study Neurobiology and join the Army ROTC program. After graduating, she aims to become a Pediatric Surgeon in the U.S. Army.
The resilience and determination of scientists like Maria Curie, who made groundbreaking discoveries and paved the way for women in science, influenced Marianna to pursue a career in medicine.
“My passion for science fuels my ambition to study medicine in college and specialize in pediatric surgery,” Marianna writes in her application essay. “I also want to serve my country in the Army, where I can combine my love for helping others with my dedication to hard work and service.”
Marianna channels her passion for helping others into her community by volunteering at a local kindergarten and participating in local and state organizations focused on preventing drug addiction among young teens.
“We are pleased to support Marianna’s admirable goals and aspirations to serve and help others with this scholarship award,” said Rumpke Regional Vice President Mark O’Brien.
Congratulations, Marianna. We wish you the best of luck with your future endeavors!
