The Superman Musical first hit Broadway in 1966 , with a funny, friendly, and campy tone. Over the years, it has not been as prominent in local theaters and RTP was up to the challenge. The story of Doctor Abner Sedgewick wanting to destroy the ultimate symbol of good is a fun romp of laughter and heart. Ira Winner is a force of nature to watch as the Doctor. Keith Carroll brings Clark Kent & Superman to life with a charm that will win over the audience in seconds. New to the RTP stage, is the captivating lead Maegan Mosher as Lois Lane (under-studied by Alison Jocek). Joey Manna as Daily Planet ladies’ man and reporter Max Mencken and his secretary the charismatic Sydney, played by Roundtown veteran Emily Allen, electrify the stage. Doctor Abner’s assistant the love sick Jim Morgan, played by the enthusiastic Riley Jocek, attempts to steal Lois’ heart from Superman.
The production directed by Jonathan Tyler Patrick & Mary Maynard features live musicians and a talented cast of all ages. Roundtown Players have found a unique way to visually honor so many eras of The Man of Steel’s history. It is a feast for Superman fans and musical theater fans alike.
