Chillicothe, OH – A 48-year-old man was seriously injured in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash in Scioto Township early Sunday morning, October 12, 2025. The incident occurred at approximately 12:41 a.m. on Three Locks Road (CR-205), about a quarter-mile from the intersection with Route 194, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
James Michael McWhorter, of Chillicothe, was riding a black 2020 Harley Davidson Street Glide Special northwest when he failed to negotiate a curve. The motorcycle veered off the right side of the roadway, returned to the pavement, overturned, and then slid off the left side. The bike struck a traffic sign, went down an embankment, and collided with a tree line, sustaining disabling damage.
McWhorter, who was wearing a DOT-compliant helmet, was ejected from the motorcycle and trapped, requiring non-mechanical extrication. Scioto Township EMS transported him to Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe for treatment of suspected serious injuries.
Authorities suspect alcohol was a factor, and McWhorter was cited for operating a vehicle without reasonable control (Ohio Revised Code 4511.202). An alcohol test was administered, but results were not available at the time of the report.
The crash occurred on a dark, unlit section of the two-way road under clear weather and dry conditions. The Ohio State Highway Patrol, led by Trooper Cody Hendershot, responded to the scene at 12:44 a.m. and cleared it by 1:45 a.m. The roadway was closed for approximately 64 minutes during the investigation. Penwell’s Towing removed the damaged motorcycle.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
