ROSS COUNTY, Ohio (Aug. 29, 2025) – A Ross County Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper remains in critical condition after being seriously injured in a head-on crash last week.
The crash happened when a pickup truck reportedly crossed into the wrong lane at a high rate of speed, colliding head-on with the trooper’s patrol vehicle. Both occupants of the truck were killed. The trooper, identified as Gunner Combs, survived and was flown to a Columbus hospital, where he is being treated in the intensive care unit.
Combs, who was on duty at the time, faces a long road to recovery. His wife, is currently balancing the care of their one-year-old son, Walker, while also preparing for the couple’s second child. Friends say she will be unable to work during this time as she travels back and forth to Columbus to be with her husband.
The family has received an outpouring of support from the community, with many offering prayers, encouragement, and financial help. A GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist with travel, medical, and household expenses as the Combs family navigates the weeks ahead.
“Anyone who knows Allysha and Gunner knows they would give the shirt off their back to help someone else—even a stranger,” the campaign reads. “Now, it’s our turn to help them.”
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash. The go fund me is below: https://www.gofundme.com/f/t63ph-support-the-combs-family
