Ross County – Thrilling Races Highlight Independence 50 at Atomic Speedway

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – July 4, 2025

Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe, Ohio, hosted an exhilarating Independence 50 event, featuring the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and Holdren Construction Sport Mods. The night showcased intense competition across 26 entries in the Burlile Petroleum Late Models and 25 in the Sport Mods, with standout performances lighting up the 50-lap and 15-lap races.

In the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series A-Main, Brandon Sheppard of New Berlin, IL, dominated, starting third and finishing first with a two-position gain. Josh Rice of Crittenden, KY, made a remarkable comeback, advancing 15 spots from 17th to secure second place. Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, GA, and Daulton Wilson of Fayetteville, NC, rounded out the top four, gaining three and five positions respectively. Donald McIntosh of Dawsonville, GA, also impressed, climbing 10 spots to fifth.

The win captured a 25,000 dollar purse for Shepard

The Holdren Construction Sport Mods A-Feature saw Zach Carr of Athens, OH, take the win, starting third and gaining two positions. Blake Sheets of Waverly, OH, led early from the pole but finished second, dropping one spot. Landon Barker of Chillicothe, OH, advanced four positions to third, while local driver Kyle Payne of Chillicothe held steady in fourth. Jamey Adams of Laurelville, OH, rounded out the top five with a five-position gain.

The event drew a strong crowd, celebrating Independence Day with high-speed action and local talent shining on the track.
