Chillicothe, Ohio — A reckless driving incident at Sherman Park led to an arrest after a driver fled from police and was later located during a traffic stop, according to a Chillicothe Police Department report.
Officers were dispatched to the Sherman Park parking lot on the evening of December 15 after reports of a pickup truck driving recklessly and performing “donuts” in the snow near other parked vehicles. Upon arrival, officers observed a white pickup truck repeatedly spinning in the northern portion of the lot.
When police activated their emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop, the truck continued circling the parking lot before stopping. The driver then exited the vehicle and fled on foot toward nearby apartment buildings. Officers remained with the vehicle due to a passenger still inside.
The passenger told officers that Levi Hurley was the driver and confirmed he was the only person operating the truck during the incident. Multiple officers searched several nearby apartments with residents’ permission, but Hurley was not immediately located. Authorities were also unable to access security video footage due to technical issues with the park’s camera system.
The truck, which was registered to a family member of Hurley, was towed and impounded for failure to comply and stunt driving. Later that evening, officers received a tip that Hurley was riding in another vehicle leaving the area. Police conducted a traffic stop on Eastern Avenue and located Hurley inside the vehicle.
Hurley was arrested on an active Ross County Sheriff’s Office warrant and additional charges related to fleeing the traffic stop. He was transported to the Ross County Jail, where he was served a traffic citation for street racing/stunt driving. Police said Hurley refused to sign the citation and denied involvement in the earlier incident.
Hurley was scheduled to appear in Chillicothe Municipal Court on December 16 at 9 a.m. He remained in custody pending his court appearance.
