KINGSTON, OH — September 7, 2025 — Ross County Sheriff’s deputies rushed to Charleston Pike on Sunday morning after receiving a report of an armed robbery in progress, only to discover the call was a false alarm.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 11:39 a.m. after dispatchers received information about a robbery. When deputies, including Deputy Tatman, Deputy Sams, and Sgt. Champion, arrived, they detained a suspect at gunpoint.
However, investigators quickly determined no robbery had taken place and that dispatch had been given false information. The individual who was detained was released at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Office said the incident remains under investigation, and charges for Making False Alarms are expected once the responsible party is identified.
Authorities remind residents that making false reports to law enforcement is a serious offense that ties up emergency resources and can put both citizens and deputies at risk.
