Pumpkin Thieves Strike Fairfield and Pickaway Counties, Farmers Report Major Losses

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, OH — Pumpkin season is off to a rocky start for two Central Ohio farms after thieves stole hundreds of pumpkins in what farmers are calling a devastating loss.

Sam’s Pumpkin Patch in Fairfield County reported that a large portion of its crop — specifically the high-value large stem pumpkins — was taken directly from a back field. The theft, which the farm says amounts to a felony-level loss, cost them “an incredible amount of income we worked hard to produce.”

The farm posted on social media that anyone with information about individuals driving around Central Ohio with an unusually large trailer or truckload of pumpkins for sale should contact them. “If we receive a tip that leads to an arrest, a reward will be offered,” the post read.

Sam’s shared a photo of one of the few pumpkins left behind, noting it was likely representative of the stolen load being sold. The farm has filed a police report and says all tips will be forwarded to the county sheriff’s office.

Despite the setback, the farm assured customers that there are still “plenty of beauty pumpkins” available for sale, though the popular super large stem variety will be in short supply. “The best way to support us — and any small local farmer — is to visit our patch and pick your perfect pumpkin,” the farm said.

The crime spree has not been limited to Fairfield County. Puffy’s Pumpkin Patch near Circleville in Pickaway County was also hit by thieves on Tuesday. Both farms are encouraging the community to show support by stopping by in person.

Anyone with tips about the thefts is asked to message the farms directly or contact law enforcement.
