CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – July 2025 — As the closure of the Pixelle Specialty Solutions paper mill in Chillicothe draws near, the company is working with regional partners to support its workforce. On Wednesday, July 16, Pixelle will host an exclusive job fair for its employees impacted by the shutdown, providing a vital opportunity to explore new employment options and workforce services.
The event will take place from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Shoemaker Center on the Ohio University Chillicothe campus. It is open only to current Pixelle employees.
The job fair is being organized in partnership with Area 20 Workforce Development Board (WDB), OhioMeansJobs (OMJ) of South Central Ohio, the Ross County Chamber of Commerce, Ohio Southeast Economic Development (OhioSE), JobsOhio, and Pixelle Specialty Solutions.
“We want to ensure that these skilled workers have access to new opportunities as well as the support they need to transition smoothly,” said Rick Szabrak, Executive Director of Area 20 WDB. “This job fair is a chance for both Pixelle employees and employers from across the region to network and find the right fit.”
In addition to face-to-face interactions with hiring employers, employees will be able to connect with training providers and OMJ representatives offering resume help, job search assistance, and career guidance.
Pixelle announced the closure of its Chillicothe plant earlier this year, with final production set to end on August 10, 2025. The shutdown affects hundreds of workers and marks the end of an era for one of the city’s longstanding employers.
“This is a tough situation for all involved, but it’s been great to see organizations throughout the Scioto Valley step up to help these employees,” Szabrak added. “Pixelle’s leadership has also played a key role in organizing this event to support their workforce.”
Employers interested in participating in the job fair are encouraged to register in advance to reserve a table. For more information or to register, contact [email protected].
