WASHINGTON, D.C. — June 17, 2025
A nationwide food recall has been issued by FreshRealm involving chicken fettuccine alfredo products sold under multiple brand names, including items stocked at Walmart and Kroger stores — potentially affecting consumers in Pickaway County and across Ohio.
The recall, announced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), covers ready-to-eat chicken alfredo meals produced at FreshRealm facilities in San Clemente, California; Montezuma, Georgia; and Indianapolis, Indiana. These products may be contaminated with a strain of Listeria monocytogenes (Lm) linked to a multi-state outbreak.
Recalled Products:
- 32.8 oz. Marketside Grilled Chicken Alfredo with Fettuccine
Best-by date 06/27/25 or earlier - 12.3 oz. Marketside Grilled Chicken Alfredo with Broccoli
Best-by date 06/26/25 or earlier - 12.5 oz. Home Chef Heat & Eat Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo
Best-by date 06/19/25 or earlier
All products display the USDA inspection mark with establishment numbers “EST. P-50784,” “EST. P-47770,” or “EST. P-47718.”

Outbreak Details:
So far, the outbreak has sickened 17 people across 13 states, with three deaths and one fetal loss reported. Illnesses linked to this strain of Listeria date back to August 2024, with the most recent case identified in May 2025.
The bacteria was also found in a routine sample taken from a FreshRealm facility in March, though that batch was destroyed and never reached store shelves. Despite extensive investigations, the source of contamination has not yet been identified.
FSIS confirmed connections between ill individuals and FreshRealm products through purchase records and interviews. The recall is being conducted voluntarily out of caution, and the investigation is ongoing.
Health Risks and Symptoms:
Listeriosis is a potentially serious infection, particularly dangerous for:
- Pregnant women and newborns (can cause miscarriage or stillbirth)
- Older adults
- People with weakened immune systems
Symptoms may include:
- Fever, muscle aches, and gastrointestinal distress
- Severe complications like confusion, convulsions, and loss of balance in advanced cases
Anyone in high-risk groups experiencing flu-like symptoms within two months of consuming a recalled product is urged to seek medical attention and inform their provider about the possible exposure to contaminated food.
What to Do:
Consumers are advised to:
- Not eat the recalled products
- Dispose of them immediately or return them to the place of purchase
- Always heat ready-to-eat meals to at least 165°F, using a food thermometer to ensure safety
