ORIENT, Ohio — A 70-year-old man was killed Wednesday morning in a violent head-on collision on U.S. Route 62, according to Pickaway County Sheriff Matthew O. Hafey.
The crash occurred at 10:41 a.m. on December 10, 2025, when the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a serious injury crash near 9976 U.S. Route 62.
Deputies arrived to find a devastating scene involving three vehicles.
According to investigators, a 2023 white Kenworth semi-truck, driven westbound by Travis C. Kemper, was struck head-on by a 2023 red Dodge Ram driven eastbound by David E. Shannon, 70, of Orient. Shannon reportedly attempted to pass another vehicle in the eastbound lane when his pickup crossed into oncoming traffic, colliding directly with the semi.
The force of the impact tore the left front tire from the Kenworth, pushing the semi left of center where it sideswiped a 2012 green Subaru driven by Rachel A. Webb, also traveling eastbound. The Subaru spun out and struck a utility pole.
Medics with the Sterling Joint Ambulance District pronounced Shannon deceased at the scene.
Sheriff Hafey expressed gratitude to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Tri County Fire Department, Sterling Joint Ambulance District, the Pickaway County Coroner’s Office, and ODOT for their assistance.
The crash remains under investigation by the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office.
