DARBY TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A collision at the intersection of Scioto Darby Road and London Road in Darby Township, Pickaway County, on July 17, 2025, resulted in one person seriously injured, according to a Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office report.

The crash occurred at 9:26 a.m. when a 2005 Peterbilt semi-tractor with a grain trailer, driven by 66-year-old Larry Dean Brungarth of Orient, was struck by a 1997 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck operated by 27-year-old Jacob Michael Davis, also of Orient. Brungarth, traveling eastbound on Scioto Darby Road, stopped at a posted stop sign before initiating a left turn onto London Road. Davis, driving southbound on London Road at an estimated 60 mph in a 55 mph zone, applied hard braking but could not avoid colliding with the left side of Brungarth’s grain trailer that was in the middle of the turn.

The impact caused disabling damage to the Silverado and minor damage to the Peterbilt’s trailer. Davis, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained suspected serious injuries and was transported by Mount Sterling Medic to Grant Hospital in Columbus. His vehicle’s airbag deployed during the crash. Brungarth, also wearing a seatbelt, reported no injuries.

The incident took place under cloudy but dry conditions on a straight, level section of the two-way road during daylight. The intersection had a stop sign for Scioto Darby Road but no traffic control on London Road. Brungarth was cited for failing to yield the right-of-way at a through highway, contributing to the angle collision.

Deputies, led by Deputy Edward Moore, arrived at 9:30 a.m. and cleared the scene by 10:49 a.m. after an 82-minute investigation. The roadway remained open, and Scioto Valley Towing removed the damaged Silverado, while the Peterbilt was driven from the scene. No alcohol or drugs were suspected, and no additional citations were issued. The investigation remains ongoing.
