CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A pedestrian was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle late Tuesday night along Western Avenue, according to the Chillicothe Police Department.
The crash occurred near the Kroger at approximately 11:17 p.m.
Police say a vehicle driven by Marsha Angus was traveling eastbound in the southernmost lane of Western Avenue when it struck a pedestrian, identified as Michelle Childers.
According to investigators, Childers was walking in the same lane of travel at the time of the collision. The impact caused visible damage to the vehicle’s windshield, and the pedestrian was found lying in the roadway complaining of leg and neck pain.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and transported Childers to Adena Regional Medical Center for treatment. Authorities said she was in stable condition, though further evaluation was ongoing.
A witness, identified, told police he was driving behind the vehicle and saw the pedestrian crossing the roadway outside of a designated crosswalk. He reported that the traffic signal was green for east- and westbound traffic at the time of the crash.
Officers noted that there were clearly marked “no pedestrian crossing” signs in the area and that no crosswalk was present at that portion of the intersection near Centennial Boulevard. The incident occurred during dark and rainy conditions.
The crash remains under investigation.
