CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred Monday afternoon on U.S. Route 23 in Huntington Township, Ross County.

The crash happened around 3:35 p.m. on August 18 at the intersection of U.S. 23 and DeBord Road. According to troopers from the Chillicothe Post, a 2013 Ford F-350 driven by Ashley Williams, 30, of Chesapeake, Ohio, was traveling southwest on U.S. 23 when a 2025 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by Carol Cunningham, 70, of Chillicothe, crossed into its path while attempting to turn north onto U.S. 23.

Troopers say Cunningham failed to yield at the intersection and was struck by Williams’ vehicle. Cunningham was transported to Adena Regional Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries.

Williams and her two passengers — Beulah McKenzie, 57, and Abygail Williams, 10, both of Chesapeake — were also taken to Adena Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.

The Patrol was assisted at the scene by Veterans Affairs Fire/Rescue, Scioto Township Fire and EMS, Huntington Township EMS, and the Ohio Department of Transportation. Traffic on U.S. 23 was reduced to one lane in each direction for about two hours during the investigation.

The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
