COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohioans still have time to enjoy the vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows of fall, as the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) reports peak and near-peak conditions across state parks, forests, nature preserves, and wildlife areas.

“Despite a delayed start this year due to high temperatures and summer drought, many areas are now showcasing breathtaking color displays,” said ODNR Fall Color Forester David Parrott. “This is the perfect time to get outdoors and experience Ohio’s fall beauty before it fades.”

Top Spots to See Fall Foliage

Alum Creek State Park is a standout destination for leaf-watchers, offering trails on land and waterways for boating, fishing, and paddling. The park features the largest inland beach in the state park system, family-friendly mountain bike trails, a half-mile Storybook Trail, and a scenic “Rocks and Roots” hiking trail ranging from three to six miles. Visitors are encouraged to wear proper footwear due to uneven and potentially muddy terrain.

Other state parks and preserves are also offering seasonal activities and events:

  • Haunted Hollows at Boch Hollow State Nature Preserve — Friday, October 31
  • Fall Hike at Rocky Fork State Park — Saturday, November 1

ODNR’s Fall Foliage Viewer shows much of Ohio in peak color, with some areas starting to fade. Visitors can plan their leaf-viewing adventures using ODNR’s website, which includes weekly color updates, a fall color tracker map, unique overnight accommodations at state parks, and the Digital Ohio State Parks Passport Challenge via the Ohio Trails+ app.
