OhioHealth Berger Hospital Advances Phased Reopening Following Smoke Incident

CIRCLEVILLE, OH – OhioHealth Berger Hospital is progressing in its phased reopening after a precautionary closure on Tuesday, June 18, 2025, triggered by smoke from an overheating pump in the basement, with an updated statement released at 4:00 p.m. EDT today, Friday, June 20, 2025. The hospital, which evacuated and shut down initially, has been working to restore operations safely with staff and remediation experts.

The emergency department and inpatient units, including maternity, resumed care on Thursday, June 19. Today, the surgery department has reopened on an emergent basis and will operate in this capacity through Sunday, June 22. Full operations are expected to resume by 7:00 a.m. EDT on Monday, June 23.

The reopening began with the emergency department restarting at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, followed by inpatient services, scheduled provider office visits, and the Quest lab opening today. Hospital-based outpatient services remain closed until further notice, with affected patients contacted via phone or MyChart to reschedule.
