VAN WERT COUNTY, OH – An Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) trooper and an officer with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) collaborated to rescue a bald eagle stranded on a roadway in Van Wert County. On Saturday, OSHP shared body cam footage from the May 15, 2025, rescue on Facebook, highlighting the joint effort to return the bird to the wild.

The post, timed for Flag Day, noted, “On this Flag Day, we honor the symbols that represent our nation, not just the flag but also the bald eagle.”

The eagle was discovered in distress on US 30 but sustained no significant injuries. After the rescue, it was safely released back into the wild, where it “flew away to freedom,” according to the OSHP update.
