COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB) has approved construction of a 350-megawatt natural gas-fired power plant in Wood County, authorizing a project designed to supply electricity directly to a nearby data center without connecting to the regional power grid.
The facility, known as the Apollo Power Generation Facility, will be built and operated by Will-Power OH, LLC near the intersection of Mercer Road and Middleton Pike in Middleton Township. The plant will operate “behind the meter,” meaning all electricity generated will serve the electric load of an adjacent data center and will not feed into Ohio’s broader electric transmission system.
In addition to power generation, the project includes approximately 120 megawatts of battery energy storage capacity, allowing for improved efficiency and reliability.
The OPSB approved the project subject to 34 conditions aimed at minimizing potential environmental, traffic, noise, and operational impacts during construction and long-term operation.
The electricity produced at the facility will be used exclusively by Liames, LLC, which is currently developing a large data center campus adjacent to the power plant site.
Project details, including maps and regulatory filings, are available on the OPSB website by searching Case No. 25-973-EL-BGN. The board also maintains an online mapping tool that shows the locations of approved and pending natural gas-fired power generation projects throughout Ohio.
