COLUMBUS – Governor Mike DeWine announced today that the Ohio National Guard will continue its mission in Washington, D.C., providing security support through November 30, 2025.
The extension comes at the request of the Secretary of the Army, made through the National Guard Bureau. Ohio will maintain 150 military police in the nation’s capital to assist the District of Columbia National Guard with presence patrols and added security.
Governor DeWine emphasized that none of the deployed military police are currently serving as law enforcement officers in Ohio. While some personnel will rotate out, the mission’s size and scope will remain the same.
“We have been asked by the Secretary of the Army to send 150 military police from the Ohio National Guard to support the District of Columbia National Guard,” DeWine said. “These members will carry out presence patrols and serve as added security.”
The Ohio National Guard first deployed military police to Washington in August 2025.
