COLUMBUS — The Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP), a division of the Ohio Department of Insurance, has launched its annual Medicare Checkup events to help Ohioans prepare for the upcoming Medicare open enrollment period, which runs from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7.

During open enrollment, Medicare participants can review their current coverage and make plan selections for 2026. OSHIIP will host both in-person and virtual events across the state, offering guidance on Medicare basics, coverage changes, prescription drug options, financial assistance programs, and strategies to lower out-of-pocket costs.

Prior to Oct. 15, the sessions will focus on education and preparation. Once enrollment begins, participants will have the opportunity for personalized plan comparisons and one-on-one counseling to ensure they make informed decisions.

Officials encourage Medicare recipients to carefully review benefits, costs, and coverage details each year, as plan options frequently change. Information on 2026 Medicare plans will be available beginning Oct. 1 at medicare.gov.

The full schedule of events, organized by county, along with virtual options, is available at insurance.ohio.gov. Ohioans can also book individual counseling sessions online, call OSHIIP at 800-686-1578, or email [email protected] for assistance.
