COLUMBUS, Ohio — Beginning August 6, Ohio birth certificates will sport a new look as part of a statewide effort to modernize and move to a fully electronic system for recording vital events.
The Ohio Bureau of Vital Statistics announced the updated design, which features a mostly red color scheme, a raised state seal in the lower-left corner, and more space for longer baby names and other personal details.
“Since we’re transitioning our system, we felt it was a good time to update the look of the certificate, address some formatting concerns, and improve security features,” said Judy Nagy, Chief of Vital Statistics.
The redesigned certificates are valid for all state and federal uses, including passport applications, Real ID driver’s licenses, employment verification, and school enrollment.
The changes are part of a broader modernization effort aimed at streamlining recordkeeping for Ohio births, deaths, and other vital records.
