CHILLICOTHE — The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 9 is asking for public feedback on a proposed intersection improvement project that would bring a new roundabout to Ross County.
The project, officially titled ROS-50-19.45 (120841), calls for the construction of a roundabout at the intersection of U.S. 50 and Veterans Parkway in Scioto Township. According to ODOT, the upgrade is intended to improve traffic flow and safety at the busy junction.
The work will require about 2 acres of permanent right-of-way, primarily from commercial lawns and agricultural fields. No homes or businesses will be removed as part of the project, and U.S. 50, Veterans Parkway, and the nearby bike path will remain open throughout construction.
Funding for the roundabout will come from both federal and state sources. The project’s environmental review is expected to be completed by December 1, 2025, with construction contracts anticipated to be awarded on July 1, 2026.
Why Roundabouts?
ODOT and traffic engineers across the country have increasingly turned to roundabouts because of their safety benefits. Unlike traditional intersections, roundabouts reduce the number of conflict points where vehicles can collide. Studies have shown they can cut serious injury and fatal crashes by as much as 80%. They also keep traffic moving more smoothly, lowering congestion and fuel use.
Community members are encouraged to share comments or concerns about the project by September 19, 2025. Written feedback may be submitted to:
