COLUMBUS, OH — The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) is calling on high school students with a passion for conservation to apply for the 2025–2026 Conservation Teen Advisory Council (ConTAC) — a program designed to empower the next generation of environmental leaders. Applications are open now through Thursday, June 5.
The ConTAC program offers students a unique opportunity to engage with ODNR professionals, explore careers in natural resources, and create meaningful conservation-focused service projects. Monthly meetings will expose participants to various ODNR divisions, such as Forestry, Wildlife, and Parks & Watercraft, giving students hands-on experience and insight into fields like wildland firefighting, forest health, and tree planting.
“Students who are passionate about conservation play a key role in safeguarding Ohio’s natural resources,” said ODNR Director Mary Mertz. “Each class brings fresh perspectives and enthusiasm, which are invaluable to our mission.”

Students entering grades 9 through 12 in the 2025-2026 school year are eligible to apply. In addition to career exploration, ConTAC members will work on group service projects that make a direct impact on Ohio’s environment — such as litter cleanups and habitat restoration efforts.
Participants will also have the chance to network with like-minded peers from across the state and build valuable leadership skills throughout the year-long commitment. Members for the upcoming class will be selected in early summer 2025.
